ABOUT THE JOB POSITION

Medical examiners, also known as forensic pathologists, are physician specialists trained in forensic and anatomical pathology. They use their medical skills to determine the cause of death, whether natural, accidental or intentional of the decedents. They also may be required to testify in legal cases, where their skills have been utilized. Furthermore, they may be gathering and examining evidence to determine the cause of death in criminal cases and unnatural or unattended deaths. Moreover, they may be present at the scene of the death to ensure that collected evidence gets safely transported to the laboratory for analysis. It's in the medical examiner's job to obtain medical records from hospitals and offices for evaluation. Once they have completed their investigation, medical examiners summarize their findings in writing and give verbal reports. They can serve as expert witness and testify in pre-trial and court hearings.

Here at Los Santos Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, we are proud of the heritage of the State and we're just as proud of the foundations left by previous agencies since our introduction in 1889; from the technology we're utilizing in the field to our extraordinary staff. The Los Santos Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner works hard alongside other Law Enforcement Officer agencies to collect evidence when present on the scene of a crime that has led to the death of either a single individual or multiple. We make sure that no tampering of evidence takes place when a corpse is present on the scene and treat it with care.

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

1. The applicant must have attained the age of twenty-four (24) years;
2. Bachelor’s degree in biology, physical sciences, or a related field;
3. Medical Degree and USMLE certificate;
4. The applicant must have a legal address in the State of San Andreas;
5. The applicant may not have been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanour;

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

1. Working knowledge of applicable laws and statutes governing forensic services;
2. Exceptional analytical and research skills;
3. Experience using lab testing equipment;

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performing autopsies to determine the cause of death;
2. Undertaking examinations of specimens, tissues, organs, fluids, and blood to determine abnormalities that may have resulted in death;
3. Investigating sudden and/or unnatural deaths, in conjunction with law enforcement, when needed;
4. Conducting on-site investigations to obtain data and information pertaining to a case, when needed;
5. Preparing reports of findings to be given to law enforcement, when needed, to aid any on-going investigations;
6. Providing expert testimony in court regarding autopsies and the findings thereof, when required;
7. Preparing death certificates and determining when decedents may be released;
8. Remaining informed of developments in forensic pathology and attending seminars and courses in forensic medicine, for continuing education;

METHOD OF SELECTION

STEP I. PRELIMINARY JOB APPLICATION — This is the first step in applying for a job as a Deputy Medical Examiner for the City of Los Santos. Aside from getting a complete overview of the applicant's professional track record, the primary objective of this application is to assess the applicant’s proficiency in the English language and motivation for the job. STEP II. BACKGROUND CHECK — Upon submitting your application, recruitment officials will verify whether the information contained within is truthful. STEP III. JOB INTERVIEW —You will be invited to a formal interview with one of our recruitment officials. This interview shall take place on a one-to-one basis and will primarily focus on your previous job experience and knowledge. It will also include theoretical questions as well as a practical assignment. Before attending the interview, it is highly recommended to study the job vacancy thoroughly as it is considered to be a good preparation for the interview.

STEP IV. WRITTEN EXAM —You will be given a written exam and expected to obtain at least 80/100 points.

STEP V. INDUCTION — The induction process for new employees is a combination of training and on-the-job learning. During the induction period, new employees will be introduced to the department's mission, values, policies and procedures. They may also receive training on the specific duties and responsibilities related to their role.
