Duration of Position: Full-time
Classification: Paygrade: $50,000 per week
The trainee performs 200–250 forensic autopsies during the one-year fellowship. These cases represent a wide spectrum of natural and traumatic causes of death. All autopsy examinations are performed under the supervision of board-certified forensic pathologists. The fellow is expected to manage his/her own cases and to seek assistance as needed. The fellow participates fully in all duties of the central office of a state-wide medical examiner system, including medical examiner training, quality assurance by review of all medical examiner cases submitted to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner-Coroner, scene investigations, and court appearances.
1. The applicant must have a Medical Doctorate Degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited program;
2. The applicant must have completed an ACGME Accredited Residency Program in Pathology (Clinical or Anatomic), and must be board-certified by the American Board of Pathology (ABPath);
3. The applicant must have a legal address in the State of San Andreas;
4. The applicant may not have been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor;
1. Working knowledge of applicable laws and statutes governing forensic services;
2. Exceptional analytical and research skills;
3. Experience using lab testing equipment;
4. Excellent communication and writing skills;
1. Receives reports of death and determines if they are within the jurisdiction of LSDMEC;
2. Investigate deaths coming under the jurisdiction of LSDMEC;
3. Assists in establishing cause, manner, and circumstances of death;
4. Confers with law enforcement agencies to coordinate investigations of deaths resulting from criminal acts;
5. Makes positive identification of the deceased and may take fingerprints and photographs for identification and case file purposes;
6. May notify the family of the deceased;
7. Interview witnesses, physicians, police officers, and family members to obtain facts concerning deaths;
8. Responsible for and may assist in the removal of the deceased;
9. May work on special projects as assigned;
10. Fills in death certificates and decides when decedents may be released;
