Alfred Hirsch - Write your character’s background story (Minimum 200 words):
Son of successful parents, James' father is a Lawyer, and his mother is a University Professor. He is black, and so are his parents. James went to a good private school, always had his family support, and was the stereotypical nerd, that studied a lot and wasn't very popular with the other kids. Although they were a united family, the expectations for James were high, they wanted him to be the best, to strive for improvement and excellence. In a way, he indeed fulfilled their desire when he entered a good university right after school and later on became a doctor, but this didn't come empty of consequences, as James himself developed the habit of being too harsh on himself, a perfectionism nature, and sometimes pettiness of people who he feels doesn't put the effort in their life. He went to high school, got the best ACT scores, entered a Biology program at the University of Washington, and then decided to continue his education at the same institution, where he earned his medical degree. Throughout his years in these elitist - and often highly occupied by white people - environments, he saw racism firsthand, of people doubting his capabilities, or even doubting he could even be the doctor or the best student in the room. These experiences made him develop a racial tension, coming from all his experiences in life as a black man (that didn't go away entirely even with him coming from a wealthy family), and sometimes a harsh, impatient, and rude tone to the ones that appear to doubt his skills and knowledge, an unhealthy defense mechanism he developed throughout the years.
James recently finished his residency at Stanford University on the Combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology path, got his certification and - after much consideration - decided to pursue the fellowship on Forensic Pathology at his Alma Mater.
He is currently seeking to start his professional career in the area, discovering his own desires and interests, adapting himself to a professional - rather than academic - environment.
