Audrey Curry - Write your character’s background story (Minimum 200 words):
Taylor Douglas was born on February 12th, 1998 in New London Connecticut to parents Jeremy and Laura Douglas. Her father was a Caucasian steel mill worker and her mother a mix of Caucasian and African American diner waitress. Taylor had an average life up until the point where the mill her father worked at closed and moved locations to Auburn, Maine. Her father and mother were not on good terms, and they divorced soon after the mill shut down. Her father went to Maine to work at the only place he could, and her mother stayed in Connecticut.
Taylor had to go with her father given he had better means to support her. She had an average life, it was nothing out of the ordinary. She attended public school, went through friends, boyfriends, and spent a lot of time around the water and in the woods. In high school her father got turned down for a promotion, and involved himself in the use of methamphetamine as the down trodden of small towns usually do. This made Taylor want to spend as much time as she could volunteering anywhere but home, and she joined the Junior Rescue Squad as a member. Essentially going on ride-alongs, cleaning the ambulances, and helping with fundraising. During her time in schooling as well she had to deal with the occasional comment about her mother and father's situation in terms of their race and poverty status, making her resentful, callous, and self-conscious.
Her father was still a decent father, even with his addiction and wasn’t abusive or neglectful but soon wasn’t able to take care of her after high school and she had to make a choice for employment. To either find work near her low income mother, or near her low income father where the results were probably similar. Hoping for an escape, she instead went to the Coast Guard Academy in her hometown of New London. The Coast Guard Academy is selective, but given her well enough grades and her multitude of volunteering she managed to scrape her way in.
Taylor’s time in the academy went well, but she didn’t do marvelous work and got a few reprimands for her performance at first. She eventually picked up the slack with mentorship from the cadre and was able to graduate with a Bachelors in Government with a focus in Security Studies. There was also the election for GEOINT, which she took and certified in as well as an internship aboard with the TFAS program in Prague, essentially studying local and relevant surrounding cultures.
She graduated and moved to the eleventh district to Los Santos in the reserves where she currently is stationed and goes one weekend a month, two weeks a year as an Intelligence Officer. After graduation she also did an online course with The Department of Homeland Security for a year. That may draw some red flags when you hear ‘intelligence’, but essentially she makes power points, maps, and sits in an office making coffee runs. There is not much intelligent about what she does.
She has a lot of certifications but most of them are through the USGC and requirements/recommended for her station and everything else sixteen year old's can get or start the process of getting. She is a rampant alcoholic and chewing tobacco user, as well as a dangerously addicted adrenaline junkie with other various self-destructive tendencies. When it comes to violent or antagonistic situations, she's primarily a coward. I assure you she has enough negatives to balance herself out into a believable character. Most of her personal time is spent cycling, mountain biking, swimming, hunting, trail raiding and various other recreational activities. She spends most of her time by herself, away from others and given she’s in the need for steady income and something to dedicate herself to, she opted to apply for the Coroner’s Office.
